cPanel and MariaDb/MySQL Issue Tuesday 5th November 2019 23:57:00

The automated cPanel update process on November 5th has resulted in an issue with MariaDB (MySQL).

cPanel have provided advice on the following link:

For Shared Hosting and Managed Server customers, we are working through systems and downgrading MariaDB as they advise. If we have not yet reverted the update to your service will do so as soon as possible,.

If you are not a Shared Hosting customer or do not have a Managed Service, please follow the advice above if your web site(s) are currently down or affected by the issue.

This incident is mitigated for managed or shared hosting customers.

Non managed customers may still need to perform an update if they are still affected.

This issue appears to relate to the latest update in cPanel against the newer versions of mariaDB: https://forums.cpanel.net/threads/known-issues-status-page.644133/#post-2709865

cPanel are currently working on a fix, however for now, we see 2 options:

  1. Run the MySQL service in recovery mode 3 (which is read only) until the fix is released by Cpanel.
  2. Downgrade the MySQL service.

If you are a managed customer we can perform a downgrade for you. If your server is self-managed then we suggest you backup your database services and try the downgrade command in the link above.
